A new Glasgow hotel celebrating the city’s ‘culture, humour and swagger’ has opened its doors today (22 September).

The ibis Styles Glasgow Centre George Square hotel takes guests on a ‘whistle-stop tour of cultural milestones’ including the traffic cone adorned Duke of Wellington statue, Billy Connolly’s big banana boot and Glasgow’s industrial past.

Each room is adorned with a digital print headboard featuring traffic cone lights and iconic images off the city. Crane illustrations on the bedrooms walls will make it appear that guests televisions are suspended from a height.

Ibis Styles – the boutique budget brand of Accor's ibis hotel group – is designed to offer both the quirky personality of a boutique hotel and the ‘quality assurance’ of an established brand.

It is operated by independent hotel management company, Redefine|BDL Hotels.

Inge Van Ooteghem, SVP Operations Economy and Budget Hotels, said: “Whether guests are here for business or leisure, they’ll experience the vibrancy and charm of Glasgow through the fabric of the hotel walls.”

Expansion

Ooteghem explained that 2015 was an ‘exciting time’ for the ibis Styles brand in the UK, with two further properties set to open in Haydock and Barnsley this month.

“ibis Styles is a growing economy brand in the UK,” she said.

“It’s always exciting to see how the story and personality of each hotel will unfold and be embraced by guests.”

Accor announced in February it would be expanding the ibis Styles brand across the UK, with at least seven new sites launching in areas such as Greenwich, Birmingham and Heathrow.
