Italian café bar and deli La Bottega is to open its seventh site in Seven Dials, the first of its cafés launched under their new concept.

The brand’s new 798 sq.ft café will be situated on Monmouth Street and opens in May. The café has been designed by Caulder Moore and will be the first launched by the company’s new management team.

New concept

La Bottega‘s aim is to bring authentic and high quality Italian groceries, food and coffee to the capital. The brand currently has six sites across London, including St James’s, Belgravia and South Kensington.

Chief executive of La Bottega Piergiorgio Lo Greco told BigHospitality: “The new concept is a refreshment of the one we have at the moment, we’re going to have a better fit out.  We’re making it clearer for the customers, for example we’re going to have beautiful boards that point out the specials of the day and the fresh food for sale is going to be clearly displayed.

“We have some exciting new design points, including the floors which are going to feature hand-painted tiles from Italy made using La Bottega colours. We’re also going to focus more on takeaway, which we do now but it’s not as organised as it could be. We’ll have a special chiller unit in Seven Dials that will help with takeaways, allowing us to sell the soup and pasta of the day easily.”

“It will be an improvement of the existing concept in terms of quality, display, organisation operational flow and customer journey.”

Seven Dials

The La Bottega site in Seven Dials will sit 24 people in the tavern-style basement and nine more on the ground floor, as well as having space for people to drop in and buy the fresh produce. Lo Greco was also pleased with the location, which is home to over 50 other cafés, restaurants, bars and pubs.

He said: “What is appealing about Seven Dials itself is it is like a little Italian city centre, there’s a nice atmosphere that our culture fits in with. It is the perfect location in which to launch La Bottega’s exciting new course, and we are delighted to be joining such great company.”

Seven Dials portfolio manager at Shaftesbury Charles Owen said: “La Bottega is a great new addition to Seven Dials' already strong mix of international cafés, bars and restaurants and will fit in with the unique retail offer throughout the area.  We work continuously to introduce new offers, and La Bottega is a perfect complement to recent openings.”

The news that La Bottega is taking a site in Seven Dials follows the announcement earlier this month that Marcus Wareing Restaurants is to open Tredwell’s, a mid-priced ‘West End eatery’ on Seven Dials’ Upper St Martin’s Lane.
