Luxury Indian firm The Lalit Suri Hospitality Group is to launch a £50m hotel in London later this month.

The 70-room Lalit London will open in Queen Elizabeth Street, near Tower Bridge, in a Grade II listed building previously home to Lambeth College.

It is the first overseas property for the group, which runs 14 hotels across India.

Designed to offer ’the best of Indian culture, hospitality and cuisine’, the Lalit London will feature an 88-cover Indian restaurant in the former Great Hall, alongside a cocktail bar, gym and spa.

The restaurant, named Baluchi, will serve dishes from across India and include wine and bread bar The Naanery.

Keshav Suri, executive director of The Lalit Suri Hospitality Group, said opening in London had been a long-held ambition for the company.

”My family has a karmic connection with this city, in fact all of us have grown up or studied in London,” he said.

“My father passed away here in 2006 and since then my mother, Dr Suri, and I have wanted to fulfill his wish of owning a hotel in London and I am glad that is finally becoming a reality.”

The Lalit Suri Hospitality Group opened its first hotel in New Dehil in 1988 and has since expanded to 12 luxury sites and two mid-market hotels under its Lalit Traveller brand across India.

It is also planning to open two further properties in India and one in Koh Samui, Thailand.
