Marcus Wareing Restaurants, led by the eponymous two-Michelin-starred chef, is opening a third London restaurant in Covent Garden which marks an 'exciting stage of growth' for the business.

The 5,500 sq.ft, three-tier restaurant will be called Tredwell’s – a ‘mid-priced eatery that captures the surrounding Seven Dials and West End’. It will open on Upper St Martin’s Lane, opposite Jamie’s Italian and Dishoom, this summer.

“With Seven Dials’ reputation as London’s number one destination for new concepts, international brands and creative cuisine, I wanted to be part of it,” said Wareing. “Tredwell’s marks a significant new departure for my business as it is the beginning of an exciting stage of growth and it also sees me move further into the role of a restaurateur.

“Tredwell’s will not be about me and my food as you will not see me in the kitchen as I remain committed to my restaurant Marcus at The Berkeley Hotel. It is a project from Marcus Wareing Restaurants and the skilled and experienced team that we have created which will be led by group operations director Chantelle Nicholson.”

Marcus opening

The new restaurant is the third in Wareing's portfolio; joining The Gilbert Scott – a British brasserie and bar in the St Pancras Renaissance Hotel – and Marcus Wareing at The Berkeley – Wareing's flagship venue which is re-opening as ‘Marcus’ next week.

The chef, who took over ownership of The Berkeley hotel's restaurant from Gordon Ramsay in 2008 following five years at the helm of Petrus, shut up shop in January for a two-month refurbishment as part of plans to 'move away from the formal styles of service'. Read full details here.

Wareing's new restaurant, Tredwell’s, is the latest in a series of additions to Seven Dials’ mix of restaurant and bars. Last autumn, Compagnie des Vins Surnaturels opened on Neals Yard, and Russell Norman selected Seven Dials for his latest concept, Ape and Bird.

Seven Dials development

Charles Owen, seven dials portfolio manager at Shaftesbury, added: “To have secured such a great new concept from Marcus Wareing Restaurants is a fantastic endorsement of Seven Dials’ reputation as a thriving destination for leading brands.

"More than that, however, it is a reflection of our strategy to deliver a critical mass of UK and international restaurants and retailers that position Seven Dials as a unique destination in London.”

The Seven Dials area - which comprises Monmouth Street, Earlham Street, Neal Street, Shorts Gardens, Neal’s Yard, Endell Street, Shelton Street, Mercer Street and the Seven Dials monument - is now home to over 150 shops and over 50 restaurants, bars and pubs.

Davis Coffer Lyons acted for Shaftesbury on the Tredwell's deal. Marcus Wareing Restaurants dealt directly.

Tredwell's will open at 4 Upper St Martin's Lane in the summer.
