Marriott International has signed a deal to open its second Residence Inn hotel in Scotland at the Marischal Square development in Aberdeen.

Work on the new four-star Residence Inn will begin in January 2015 and it is expected to open in the summer of 2017.

The hotel, which will be aimed at extended-stay business and leisure customers, will have 126 rooms comprised of 114 studios and 12 one-bedroom suites. Each of the rooms will come with a fully-equipped kitchen and separate areas for living and sleeping.

The hotel will also have a number of public areas including a fitness centre, a business centre, a lounge bar, and a grab and go market shopping area.

Location

Residence Inn Aberdeen will be opened as part of the city’s multi-million pound Marischal Square project which will see a number of new restaurants and cafes opening in the city, as well as office space.

Vice president of international development at Marriott International Tim Walton said: “We are thrilled to be part of the exciting development plans for Marischal Square as we continue to expand our Residence Inn by Marriott brand in Scotland.

“The brand prides itself on giving guests everything they need to thrive on longer stays, and we are confident that the modern and stylish design of the hotel combined with the excellent location at the heart of Aberdeen will offer a dynamic hotel experience in the city.”

Aberdeen City Council leader councillor Jenny Laing said: “This agreement is a major boost for the city and highlights the strong appeal of both Aberdeen and the new Marischal Square development to top-flight international businesses. Marriott International is one of the world’s leading hotel companies and to see them developing a four-star hotel on the site is a huge vote of confidence in the continuing regeneration of our city centre.”

The new hotel will be the eighth Marriott International property in Scotland and the second Residence Inn, the first having opened in Edinburgh in 2011.
