The 70-cover restaurant will be a more informal venue than its sister site in Bristol, The Rockfish Grill, serving a family-friendly menu of fried fish and chips, as well as cracked crab dishes.
Tonks, who opened the Rockfish Grill on the site of the former Fishworks in Bristol last June, told BigHospitality he wanted to make seafood ‘more accessible for everyone.’
“Rockfish is more of a grill and I wanted to do something more family orientated, relaxed,” he said. “We have a lot of families coming into The Seahorse already, so to open a family-led venue is ideal. The decision to open on the same road was deliberate – it’s such a vibrant, fresh area and to be on the seafront is great.
“The site itself is perfect too, as the long dining room kind of resembles a pier.”
Tonks finalised a deal for the property on Dartmouth’s South Embankment on Tuesday, and will begin refurbishment work within weeks.
