Morgans Hotel Group, the New York-based hospitality management company with boutique hotels across the US and in London, has today announced that its new 234-bedroom Hudson Hotel will open in 2015 at Great Scotland Yard in St. James’s, London.

The Hudson London deal was officially announced by the Group in June, but details of the property’s location have been kept secret until now. Westminster City Council planning committee granted permission for the development of the hotel earlier this month.

The hotel marks the beginning of the introduction of the Hudson lifestyle brand to major cities around the world, and of a new partnership between Morgans Hotel Group and hotel owners Sansar Investments Ltd.

"We are excited to work with Morgans Hotel Group and their team to bring the second Hudson to the London market," said Raman Thukral, director of Sansar Investments. "We could not envision a better partner to collaborate with, and are already exploring future opportunities with Morgans Hotel Group's development team."

Hudson London Great Scotland Yard will be Morgans' fourth property in London, joining the Sanderson and St Martins Lane hotels, and Mondrian London at Sea Containers House, which is due to open in early 2014.

'Gateway brand'

The boutique hotel is situated in a 102-year-old Edwardian building, formerly inhabited by the Ministry of Defence. Following in the footsteps of its New York predecessor, Hudson London will feature ‘cutting-edge style’, using the hotel lobby as a social hub. It will also feature a restaurant on the ground floor, a 40-seat library lounge and flexible meetings spaces.

Speaking when the Hudson London deal was first announced, Morgans Hotel Group’s chief executive Michael Goss said: “Hudson is our gateway brand, offering guests a unique and social experience, in a creative, unexpected environment.  We are looking forward to bringing the spirit of our celebrated New York property to a global stage, and elevating Hudson into a truly international brand.”

Late last year, BigHospitality reported that Morgans Hotel Group will open its first European Mondrian hotel in London in 2014 with an investment of £9m into the project.  The 360-bedroom hotel is set to open in the iconic Sea Containers House on London's South Bank, overlooking the River Thames and is planning to include a restaurant and ground floor and rooftop bars.
