Hotel du Vin and Malmaison owner Marylebone Warwick Balfour has opened its second Pub du Vin site in Birmingham, reports The Morning Advertiser .
The concept, based on the traditional British pub, is situated in what used to be the cellar bar underneath the city`s Hotel du Vin.
Unlike the first site, which opened in Brighton last November, the Birmingham site does not have its own rooms. The pub is currently offering a £5 pie and pint deal.
Robert Cook, chief executive of Malmaison and Hotel du Vin has spoken of plans to expand the concept to up to 50 sites and has dubbed the pub tankard as the “new martini glass”.
But expansion plans are on hold for at least a year until parent company, Marylebone Warwick Balfour, works out where the economy is going.
Hotel du Vin continues to grow and has secured new properties in St Andrews, opening next summer and Canterbury and Chester opening in 2011.
