The international restaurant group Sushisamba has signed a lease to operate the restaurant and sky bar at the top of London’s Heron Tower.

The central London site will be the first European location for the group, which currently operates restaurants in New York, Miami, Chicago and Las Vegas.

Due to open in the autumn of 2011, Sushisamba will offer a combination of Japanese, Brazilian and Peruvian cuisine. It will take up the top three floors of Heron Tower, a new office and commercial building located around 150m from Liverpool Street Station in the City.

Spanning a total of 13,423 sq ft, the new site will include two restaurants serving breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner. It will also have outdoor dining on the two terraces that flank the restaurant, which will offer views of the cityscape.

The site, which will be designed by architects CetraRuddy, will also include a bar and lounge and an event space. It will have direct access via two “scenic” elevators from a dedicated entrance on Bishopsgate.

This new lease means that around 20 per cent of the space in the 46-storey Heron Tower has been let.

Restaurant and bar operator Drake & Morgan will also operate a new venue – called The Drift – at the site when it opens later this year.

The other two tenants currently signed on for the building are a serviced office provider and a law firm.

Jonathan Goldstein, chief executive of the property group Heron International said further lettings would be announced “in due course”.

Just last month, Heron International secured planning permission for an adjacent £500m residential and retail development.

The 43-storey Heron Plaza, which will house the fourth Four Seasons Hotel in the UK, is set for completion in 2015 and will be linked to Heron Tower to permit energy saving.
