Tate Modern opening new restaurants in £260m extension
The ten-storey Switch House development – located behind the existing Boiler House building - will expand gallery space by 60 per cent and is expected to boost visitor numbers by 1m a year.
Launching on 17 June, the extension will feature a ground floor bar, Member’s Room and the Switch House Restaurant on the ninth floor.
Visitors to the Tate’s main building will be able to enjoy a ‘refreshed’ fifth floor Members Bar, a new kitchen and bar on the sixth floor as well as the existing ground floor Café.
Jeroen Schuijt, CEO of Tate Enterprises, said: “With the new building comes the opportunity to extend our talented team of chefs and staff.
“With around five million visitors a year to Tate Modern, we will deliver exceptional food and drink for many people. I only want people who are truly passionate about food and service on my team.”
The brick-clad extension will launch on 17 June with four floors of art, just over 16 years since the Tate Modern first opened.
Architects Herzog & de Meuron were invited back to create the new wing following the success of their design for the main building - a conversion of the former Bankside Power Station.
