Anzu, a new Asian-Japanese-style restaurant from the team behind the ramen group Tonkotsu, is to open this month in the capital’s new £400m St James’s Market development.

Ken Yamada and Emma Reynolds will launch Anzu, with a menu focusing on the ‘teishoku’ – a multi-dish main meal - which the restaurant likens to an ‘oriental version of thali’ (the multi-dish traditionally-Indian platter).

It comes with a ‘main’ option ‒ from the classic choices of ebi furai, wagyu sirloin, or black cod teriyaki ‒ alongside rice and pickles.

Anzu will also serve gyoza, oysters, and sashimi platters, plus Nanban Zuke, a dish of salmon marinated in sake and ginger.

Desserts will be along the lines of ‘shu cream’ – a crème Anglaise-filled bun popular in Japan.

Commenting on the opening, Yamada and Reynolds said: "[We are] ecstatic to be able to bring a more fine-dining offering to London. The teishoku is a simple, delicious, beautiful way to eat Japanese food and we think Londoners and tourists alike will adore the flavours and simplicity.”

Yamada and Reynolds also run the Tonkotsu ramen brand, which operates three sites in London and one in Birmingham.

Anzu is just one of the groups set to open in the new St James’s Market development, found between Haymarket and Regent Street St James.

Also announced as part of the £400m project are Veneta – a Venetian-themed site from Ben Tish and the Salt Yard Group ‒ Nordic-style site Aquavit, and the first international outpost for Danish bakery duo Ole and Steen.
