The Churchill Bar and Terrace to open at Hyatt Regency London
Opening on 29 November – the day before Sir Winston Churchill’s birthday – the new venue will have its own entrance on Portman Square, with space for 46 guests in the bar and 26 on the heated terrace.
The Churchill will be overseen by bar manager Alan Cook, who will serve a selection of classic British cocktails along with high quality spirits and liquors, which will be paired with a 28-strong range of 28 cigars.
“We have recruited a team of highly knowledgeable and passionate staff who will be on hand to engage with guests and take them on a journey through our menu of classic cocktails and fine cigars,” said Cook. “I very much look forward to being a key player in creating a lasting legacy at the hotel.”
Life-size statue
The interiors of the bar and terrace have been designed with subtle references to a young Churchill and his wife Clementine. These can be seen throughout the space using art, travel, animals, Champagne, cigars and whisky.
A specially commissioned life-size bronze statue of Sir Winston Churchill entitled ‘In Conversation’, by renowned sculptor Lawrence Holofcener, will be seated at a table on the private terrace for guests to enjoy a drink alongside Britain’s greatest Briton.
Hyatt International took over the management contract of the hotel in May 2004 and following a multi-million-pound investment, the Hyatt Regency London – The Churchill now offers 434 guest rooms along with 12 meeting rooms, a 24-hour gym, tennis courts and a jogging track in the gardens of Portman Square.
Yesterday BigHospitality reported that an affiliate of Hyatt Hotels Corporation bought the Hyatt Regency Birmingham hotel out of administration for around £27m and is planning a significant investment in the property.
