InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) is relaunching 1,400 of its Holiday Inn hotels across the globe this month as part of a £60m revamp of the brand.

Rebranded hotels within the Holiday Inn estate will re-open with upgraded lobbies, new bedding and revamped bathrooms. All Holiday Inn staff will also be enrolled in a training programme to ensure service matches the new look.

So far 50 out of 200 properties in the UK and Ireland have been relaunched under the new branding and all 3,300 Holiday Inns across the world are expected to be completely relaunched by the end of 2010.

“Research has shown that companies, who invest in their brands during an economic downturn, actually increase their market share and end up being more profitable on the other end, further demonstrating the viability of the Holiday Inn global brand relaunch during this time," said Kevin Kowalski, senior vice president, Global Brand Management, Holiday Inn Brands.

Holiday Inn's relaunch is the largest in the history of the hospitality industry and is the first time the company's logo has been changed in 50 years.
