How can the UK sustain this level of food production?
Answer? We can't, we don't have anywhere near enough farm land to service the hospitality industry - let alone supermarkets or grocery stores.

I'm a head chef and I can confidently say with some confidence that sourcing seasonal produce in my restaurant would put me out of business.
Not only does it limit the menu it's actually more expensive to keep this going.
Obviously Ramsay's spent too long with his head up his own a**e to think about what hes actually implying.

Vincent I think your head is quite obviously up your arse. You must be totally blind if you think getting seasonal produce is difficult.
Try using strawberries and salads in the summer when people want light food, and apples and root vegetables for more hearty dishes in the winter. You can get it all in England, and its all available locally too. It's probably even more expensive to ship over out-of-season produce from other countries anyway!
Its nice to see that you think you're confident, but from my experience, egotism is a prerequisite for head chefs.

i dont know where all you people are living but where am from in yorkshire we can say that we can get 99% of our produce within a 30 mile radus from our restaurant, so i think gordon is right in what he says.Chefs should get out there more and see whats on offer instead of standing in there kitchens and saying they cant find it.
