Maze chef takes to the water for the UK
Maze Executive Chef Jason Atherton was one of 10 internationally renowned chefs to compete in the S. Pellegrino Cooking Cup last weekend.
The event saw chefs such as Arima Kuniaki from Passo a Passo restaurant in Tokyo and Jean-Yves Drevet from Maison du Prussien in Neuchatel, put their cooking and sailing skills to the test in a 10 mile boat race between the Venice Lido and the island of San Giorgio.
Chefs were given the task of cooking a gourmet dish in a small yacht galley kitchen while the crews did their best to make their boat the first to the island.
Dishes are then judged by a panel of experts in the fields of wine, cooking and sailing, who make their awards based on various criteria.
Unfortunately Atherton failed to secure the Best International Dish for the UK†for a third year. Instead the title went to Melanie Gowers of the Adelaide Convention Centre.
Previous winners were Tom Aikens and Angela Hartnett.
