Tibits vegetarian restaurant opens in London

- Becky Paskin

tibits%20heddonThe Swiss vegetarian restaurant concept Tibits is today launching in London’s Heddon Street with its unique ‘weigh and pay’ concept of dining.

Visitors will be able to choose from a range of 35 salads and 12 hot dishes, which are paid for by weight - £2.50 per 100g, as well as a selection of patisseries for breakfast. The food is inspired by a range of cuisines, from Asian and Indian to Mediterranean, and only uses seasonal and organic ingredients.

Tibits is decorated in rich moss and berry-coloured wallpapers and velvet fabrics, with pearl and bronze paints in order to make a contrast between daytime and evening dining. The restaurant uses the ‘two-tier food boat’ and bar as the focal pieces of the room, and incorporates a lounge area, large communal tables and a children’s corner in a large, airy space..

The concept was dreamed up by brothers Reto, Daniel and Christian Frei in association with Rolf and Marielle Hiltl, founders of the Hiltil, the first vegetarian restaurant in Europe. They currently own four other restaurants in Switzerland, and have one more planned for Westfields Shopping Centre, due to open October 30.
