Chez Bruce in Wandsworth has won the Top Food award in the newly released Zagat Survey 2008. The guide, put together using comments from more than 5,300 Londoners, named L'Atelier de Joël Robuchon in Covent Garden the Top Newcomer, Les Trois Garçons in Shoreditch took Top Décor, Restaurant Gordon Ramsay won Top Service, while Wagamama was voted Most Popular for the second year running.
The average cost of a meal in London rose 2.9 per cent from last year to £39.09 compared to £35.10 in Tokyo and £19.30 in New York. The survey found that organic restaurants using sustainable ingredients were popular with Bumpkin in Notting Hill and the Butcher & Grill in Battersea, both of which opened during the past year.
"Today's diners have a better understanding of what their food choices mean – not only to their health, but their impact on the environment," stated Tim Zagat, Co-Founder and CEO of Zagat. "Not only is there increased demand for organic and sustainably raised food, but the majority of Londoners are ready to pay more for it."
