Isn't it amazing how you can print off 100 copies of the menu and yet, halfway through lunchtime, they're all creased, covered in mucky pawprints and drizzled with red wine – and that's if you can find them. We like the solution found by The Crown and Two Chairmen in Soho: the few menus they have are slotted into acrylic frames (£9.95 from Muji), which can be propped up at the bar on their stands or taken to the tables.

This tidy approach works well in pubs – of the informal, non-gastro variety, as, although not everyone orders food, it's important to have the menus to hand and prevent them from getting lost underneath a pile of Sunday papers.
