The Olive Branch & Beech House in Clipsham, Rutland, has won Michelin Pub of the Year 2008 in Michelin's newly released Eating Out in Pubs 2008 guide.
"The No1 spot can only go to a pub with star quality – that extra ingredient you can't quite put your finger on but which you'd travel to experience and which is recognisable almost as soon as you walk through the door," it said.
The Olive Branch & Beech House was also praised for its choice of beers and wines, warm welcome and service.
Guide Editor Derek Bulmer said there has been a rise in the standard of pub food. He commented, "Cooking in British pubs has reached new heights and there is a huge choice available to diners. Some pubs are taking the organic route, with the help of small local suppliers, while others focus on regional specialities and longestablished local recipes. Some serve creative, contemporary cooking, with more of an international flavour, but equally, there are plenty of places offering traditional British favourites."
Of the 564 pubs featured in the UK and Ireland, 76 are new additions.
