Chai, the Indian blend of milky tea and warm aromatic spices, is making its way into many upmarket UK coffee shops, and makes an interesting base for this new cream liqueur.
It looks like builders tea and smells like a peculiar mix of dolly-mixture, bubblegum and winter spices.
Happily, it tastes a lot better. The spices really come to the fore: cardamom, cloves and cinnamon dominate and there are undertones of creamy vanilla. At 12.5 per cent, the kick is more of a gentle shove.
A good alternative to Bailey's or Kahlua in cocktails and shooters, the spiciness adds something a little different to the mix. It would be a good accompaniment most Indian desserts, particularly Kulfi (cardamom flavoured Indian ice cream) or Gulab Jamun (light dough balls soaked in syrup).
