Pintxo People, the Spanish tapas and fine dining concept that took Brighton by storm last year, is opening a site in London.
The London branch, which will be called Pinchito, will open on Featherstone Street, EC1, in mid-March, and because of the site's size, it will just contain the Pintxo side of the business.
Pintxos are small dishes similar to tapas and use Basque and Catalan meat, fish and cheeses.
There will be about 25 covers around the bar plus another 20 seated. Opening hours will be from 8am to midnight so breakfast will be served as well; in the evening, plenty of wines and sherries by the glass "for the drink-led market near Old Street" said General Manager Jason Fendick.
The site in Brighton, where pintxos are served in the ground floor bar, with the more formal restaurant on the first floor, was a case of "testing the concept before we brought it to London" said Fendick. "We knew we wanted to do more but thought it would probably be on the South Coast. But this site came up, it was a steal and it'll help us get our foot in the door in London." He added, "We'd like to do the fullblown restaurant here at some stage, too, also probably City-side."
