The Ark for Business consultancy service, a new hospitality industry initiative, designed to give companies help in developing their alcohol and drug policies, and providing management training to aid the prevention of drug and alcohol addiction, has been launched at the House of Commons by Hospitality Action.
Penny Moore, Hospitality Action's Chief Executive, said, "The benefits to the individual are clear but there are also significant advantages for businesses in terms of reduced absenteeism, increased productivity, less risk of accidents in the workplace and building their reputation as a caring and responsible employer. Alcohol and drug addiction are growing problems in today's society and can happen to anyone in a business, from commis chefs through to board directors."
The Ark Foundation was founded by ex- Ritz Head Chef Michael Quinn in 2001 to help young people fight the temptation of drugs and alcohol. The association visits catering colleges and talks to students as well as briefing hospitality companies on how to provide support. It has been part of Hospitality Action, chaired by the British Hospitality Association's Chief Executive Bob Cotton, since 2003.
