With the release of Xellent, the Swiss have jumped on the increasingly international Vodka-producing bandwagon.
The heavy-looking rubyred glass flask looks more like it contains liquid nitrogen than crystal-clear spirit. It's far better on the tongue, however, and best appreciated cold. Made from 100 per cent rye and triple distilled with water straight from an Alpine glacier, Xellent is a pure, sweet edged vodka with very little of the oiliness you get from its potato cousins. It's delicately creamy and gives a feeling of clean heat as you swallow. There's only a hint of an aftertaste – a real palate cleanser.
