Jesmond Dene House Hotel & Restaurant in Newcastle has appointed a new two man team to head up its kitchen. Executive Chef Andrew Richardson and Chef de Cuisine Michael Waugh trained under Jesmond Dene's owner Terry Laybourne at his Café 21 Quayside restaurant in Newcastle when the venue was awarded a Michelin star in 1991.

The UK and Ireland have been given reduced quotas for mackerel and herring fishing by the European Commission in a bid to stem the effects of overfishing from 2001 to 2005. Lower quotas will apply from this year to 2012 with reductions of up to 15 per cent less per annum. The cutbacks won't be enough to negatively affect restaurant supplies in the UK said Seafish, which promotes sustainable seafood, giving the reason that the UK exports a high percentage of both fish.
