Michel Roux has sold his share of The White Hart Inn in Nayland, Suffolk, nearly 12 years after leading a group of local businessmen to buy the former coaching inn.
Roux blamed his decision to sell up on the distance between The White Hart and his three-starred Waterside Inn in Bray, combined with his age.
He said: "I was too far from Nayland to keep a close eye on the business. Chefs moved and managers were running their own show. In the end, I decided to withdraw and sell my shareholding to my partner and friend Ian Altug."
The restaurant, which also has six bedrooms attached, will continue as usual, according to a White Hart spokesperson.
