Westminster City Council is providing its Chinese restaurants with food hygiene packs in Cantonese and Mandarin to increase the quality of cleanliness in Chinatown and overcome the language barrier faced by non- English-speaking chefs.

The packs, which the council said were created with the help of the FSA and the Chinese community, will provide 125 Chinese restaurants in Westminster with information on storage and cooking regulations regarding traditional Chinese dishes as well as standard hygiene rules.

Council environmental health officers said they were dissatisfied with the initial packs in English and believe the new packs in Cantonese and Mandarin will educate more of the Chinese restaurant community.
