Rebecca Toppin, 16, a student at Carmel Technology College in Darlington, has won the FutureChef 2007 competition, with a menu of Roast Crown of Chicken with a Chunky Vegetable Broth, followed by Orange and Cinnamon Clafouti with Vanilla Ice Cream.

On the judging panel, Cyrus Todiwala, chef/owner of Café Spice Namasté, said, "Rachel had excellent menu balance.

The chicken was juicy and cooked to perfection. This was simple cooking at its very best."

Toppin's prizes included a day's cookery course with a yet-to-be-announced celebrity chef (last year it was Gary Rhodes) and a family break at a Center Parcs destination.

First runner-up was Philip Oberhoffer, 15, of Archbishop Sancroft School. Philip Ferguson, 14, of Torpoint Community College, Cornwall, and Ellie Schofield, 15, of South Bromsgrove High School in the West Midlands, were second and third runners-up respectively.
