Tragus restaurant chain operator has bought Strada from retail magnate Richard Caring for £140m. Tragus will acquire 50 Strada sites and five Belgo and Bierodrome sites and the company has stated it plans to grow the number of sites to around 150 in the UK.

The sale will, said Tragus, "Greatly increase the Group's position in the casual dining sector." Caring bought Strada from Luke Johnson for £60m in September 2005.

Tragus was sold by LGV Ventures to Blackstone private equity group for around £276m in December 2006 and went on to buy 16 Ma Potters sites in February 2007. It lost the bidding war for La Tasca tapas chain in March.
