VANILLA restaurant in London has hired Izu Ani to try and turn around the basement restaurant`s reputation.
Vanilla was almost universally slammed when it opened last July, with Times critic Giles Coren particularly bashing it with his usual panache:
"For pudding we had `caramelised pineapple ravioli, pina colada shot and mango foam`. If you’ve ever slurped the dregs from a warm can of Lilt into which a Great Dane has drooled while you were looking the other way, you were, my friend, luckier than us," he wrote.
Ani comes with an impressive CV, including time at Akelarre in Spain and Auberge D L`ll in France, with the last three years spent as senior sous chef at the Square in Mayfair.
His food is described as "light and different, using carefully sourced and seasonal products mixed with the various influences gained through his travels".
