John Burton Race has revealed Gordon Ramsay tried to buy his Michelin-starred New Angel restaurant in Devon for a bargain price as the chef faced financial ruin.

JOHN Burton Race has claimed Gordon Ramsay tried to buy out his troubled Devon restaurant for a knock-down price as the I`m A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! star battled to stay solvent.

Burton Race`s ex-wife Kim closed The New Angel while he was in the jungle in the hit ITV show last November and - with rumours circulating that the chef owned nearly £1million to creditors - also sacked the 20 staff to fund their £3.6million divorce.

Burton Race, 50, is now back in business at The New Angel after internet tycoon Clive Jacobs - the man behind lastminute.com - stepped in to offer the chef the necessary financial support to get the business open again.

Burton Race said at the weekend that Ramsay had made a firm offer for The New Angel - which was valued at more than £1.3 million.

The chef refused the offer and refused to reveal how much Ramsay offered, but said: "I think he did it because The New Angel is quite an established restaurant and he wanted something ready-made to put his people in to run."
