Pop stars spokesperson pours cold water on reports Madonna and her movie director husband Guy Ritchie have bought the historic Punch Bowl pub in Mayfair, London.

MADONNA`S publicist has denied claims the singer and her movie director husband Guy Ritchie have bought a London pub.

Reports on Wednesday claimed Madonna and Ritchie had bought the Punch Bowl in Mayfair, London.

But Scottish & Newcastle Pub Enterprises (SNPE), which owns the leasehold on the 18th century pub, said there is “no truth in the rumour", while Madonna`s own publicist told showbiz reporters the claims are "pure fiction".

It was said the pair brokered a £2.5m deal alongside nightclub entrepreneur Piers Adam - the owner of classy nightspot Mahiki, on Dover Street, Mayfair - to buy the pub which used to be owned by gangster Freddie Foreman, who was jailed for murder alongside Charlie Kray in 1969.
