CHARAN Gill was presented a Lifetime Achievement Award in the Irn-Bru Curry Awards in Glasgow last night.
Gill, the multi-millionaire former owner of the Harlequin Leisure Group -one of the largest Indian restaurant chains in Europe - has been involved in the restaurant industry for many years and is noted for his charitable works.
Charan currently owns the Quay Complex in Musselburgh, and is a non-executive director of Noah Beers. He has also starred in The Secret Millionaire and has written an autobiography entitled “Tikka Look at Me Now”.
On collecting the award he said: “I’m absolutely delighted to be presented with this award – particularly as there’s no better way to wash down a spicey chicken tikka than with an Irn-Bru – after all, a good curry and an Irn-Bru are both staples of the Glaswegian diet.”
