ORCHID has become the first company in the industry to make a 100 per cent commitment to ethical, carbon neutral water - all the profits of which go toward providing clean water to desperate populations in bottles that decompose one Million times faster than ordinary plastic.
The entire estate of pubs and restaurants will now only offer the Belu brand. Belu contributes 100 per cent of its net profits to clean water projects, and is entirely carbon neutral.
Belu created the UK’s first compostable bottle made from bio-degradable corn. These can be commercially composted back to soil in just 12 weeks – a staggering million times faster than normal plastic bottles.
Every bottle of Belu sold provides someone in India or Africa with clean water for an entire month, every bottle, so this commitment by Orchid is a huge step forward for the industry.
Orchid’s take-up of Belu is anticipated to provide much-needed, life giving clean water to tens of thousands of people in some of the world’s most needy areas.
Simon Dodd, Orchid’s commercial director said: “At Orchid we are committed to supporting British and socially responsible initiatives wherever we can.
“By stocking Belu bottled water throughout our estate we are clearly demonstrating our commitment to initiatives that support the environment and make a real difference to people’s lives in some of the poorest countries on earth. We believe this sort of initiative is strongly in-line with what our customers want to see today and are delighted with our new Belu:Orchid partnership.”
