Members of Liverpool’s hospitality industry will hear tonight if they are winners at the Mersey Partnership Tourism Awards.
And with the city being crowned European Capital of Culture this year, it has arguably never been more important for businesses in the industry to be seen to be the best.
The 2008 awards will take place at the BT Convention Centre at Kings Dock tonight with The Liner, Malmaison, the Marriott and the Radisson SAS battling it out for Hotel of the Year.
Valparaiso, Roses Tea Rooms, Sheldrakes and The Yellow Room at Hillbark Hotel are all shortlisted for the Taste of Merseyside award while The Gateway Conference Centre, the Partnership for Learning and The Conference Centre at LACE will wait to hear who has won the Excellence in Business Tourism award.
Nigel Byrne, Manager of The Gateway Conference Centre, which is a member of the Meetings Industry Association, said it was a delight to just be nominated.
He said: “It is a testament to our team of trained and accredited staff, which is one of the Gateway’s most outstanding assets. We’ve doubled the number of events held at the Gateway this year and are welcoming some interesting companies to the city in 2008.”
The Awards, which are sponsored by Merseytravel, Liverpool John Lennon Airport, Northwest Regional Development Agency, Liverpool Culture Company and ACC Liverpool, recognise and reward excellence in tourism in the city.
