Margaret Frost, who runs the Diggins Farm B&B in Essex has officially been dubbed 2008`s Friendliest Landlady of the Year at the AA`s 2008 B&B Awards.
Frost beat a shortlist of 20 other entrants to win the title at the awards ceremony at The Mandarin Oriental hotel in London last night.
Her warm manner and willingness to go the extra mile by offering tea and cake to her guests on arrival and booking complimentary taxis to Stansted and local pubs won the praise of the AA`s inspectors.
Winner of the Funkiest B&B of the Year award was the Enchanted Manor (pictured below) on the Isle of Wight, a restored old manor house which has been converted into a magical retreat by owners Ric and Maggie.
For the first time, the AA introduced a category to award the best B&B†in London with the award sponsored by the London Development Agency.
The first winner of the London B&B of the Year Award is San Domenico House, a 16-bedroom luxury B&B in Chelsea.
Taking the top prize for England in the AA Guest Accommodation of the Year is The Stables Lodge in Tyne & Wear while Scotland`s best B&B is Fauhope House in Melrose. The best B&B†in Wales is Tan-Y-Foel Country House, Near Betws y Coed.
The AA B&B Awards is a branch of the AA’s Hospitality Awards, which celebrate their centenary this year.
All winners of the B&B awards feature in the Bed & Breakfast Guide which features more than 4.500 independently inspected establishments across the UK and Ireland.
