Six big-hearted restaurants in Sussex raise £2,000 for their local hospital

A group of Sussex restaurants have raised £2,000 for their local hospital’s mother and baby unit, after teaming up in a local fundraiser.

The restaurants from Chichester and its surrounding villages, offered discounted meals to their diners, but asked them to donate the saving made to their local St. Richard’s Hospital.

The restaurants that took part included The Dining Room at Purchases and Woodies Wine Bar, both in Chichester, Cassons Restaurant in Tangmere, The Millstream in Bosham, Hallidays in Funtington, and The Oaks in Walberton.

Andy Stephenson, organiser of the fundraiser and proprietor of Hallidays, said: “We all came up with how to run the scheme and spent a lot of time and effort to get it up and running. It was almost like a restaurant association for the area as we really got to know about each other.”

St. Richards Hospital has recently lost it’s A&E unit as part of NHS cutbacks, and was in dire need of new equipment for the mother and baby unit. Andy has pledged to hold the fundraiser again next year, and hopes to raise £5,000 for another local charity.

Restaurants interested in getting involved with next years project should call Andy on 01243 575331.
