East Beach Caf? opens fish & chip restaurant

The team behind the Thomas Heatherwick-designed East Beach Cafe are to open a beach-side fish and chip restaurant next month.

West Beach Cafe will open just along the coast from the original restaurant in Littlehampton, West Sussex and will serve a simple menu devised by East Beach Cafe Head Chef David Whiteside, including homemade fish cakes and locally-made ice-cream.

Owners Jane Wood and her daughter Sophie Murray will continue the ethos of the first restaurant, which opened in June last year, and only serve sustainable fish and locally-sourced produce at the cafe where customers can eat-in or take-away.

“Even the cafe itself has been made locally – from the furniture to the lighting, the signage, the steelwork and the window frames – each item has been hand made by local craftsmen, many based in Littlehampton,” said Murray.

The new cafe, designed by Architectural Association graduate Asif Khan, will open on July 20.
