Restaurant Association Chairman Robert Walton visits Buckingham Palace to pick up his MBE

Restaurant Association Chairman Robert Walton has been to Buckingham Palace to collect his MBE from the Prince of Wales.

Walton, who also owns the Elm Tree gastro-pub in Beech Hill and the Tamarind Tree in Lower Basildon, was named in the New Year Honours for his services to the hospitality industry.

In his relatively short time as RA Chairman, Walton has been instrumental in developing the Meal Appeal, a scheme created in partnership with the Great Variety Club of Great Britain to raise money for children`s charities and Hospitality Action.

Walton said he was "honoured" to receive his MBE.

"Most importantly it recognises the achievements of the whole Industry. It’s one that I’m proud to be part of,” he said.

Last month Whitbread Chief Executive Alan Parker was awarded a CBE in the Queen`s Birthday Honours list and Leon co-founder Allegra McEvedy received an MBE.
