Balvenie whisky receives the rum treatment
Newest single malt in the Balvenie range aged in old rum casks for 17 years

The Balvenie Rum Cask 17 Year-Old Single Malt Whisky will in September join the unique range available to the UK.

The whisky is first matured in traditional oak whisky casks at the Balvenie Distillery in Speyside in the Scottish Highlands, where it gathers the vanilla-honey notes that are so characteristic of the brand. It then spends a second period of maturation in Jamaican rum casks, where layers of warmth, spice and richness are acquired.

The result is an exceptionally sweet, subtly spicy whisky with a hint of fresh fruit and vanilla, while the nose evokes a sense of the exotic sugar cane and coconut of Jamaica. At 46 per cent ABV, the Rum Cask 17 Year-Olds finish is exceptionally smooth and long.

Balvenie Malt Master David Stewart said: “This is only the second time we have experimented with maturing The Balvenie in rum cask. This sweet and intense 17 year old is an exceptionally pleasurable result.”
