Town House Collection sets up Wine Academy
Scottish hotel group the Town House Collection launches a wine training scheme for staff

Scottish hotel group the Town House Collection has set up a Wine Academy for its staff to help them develop their wine knowledge and service standards.

The group has teamed up with wine importer Inverarity Vaults to run monthly academies for interested staff from The Bonham, The Howard, The Edinburgh Residence and Channings.

At the academy staff are given a basic introduction to wine, information on wine and food matching as well as being taught the art of trading up.

Those that wish to further their knowledge are able to attend a two-day seminar followed by an examination to achieve the NVQ Level 1 in wine.

Jim Sinclair, Training and Development Manager for The Town House Collection said: “The Wine Academy was born as a direct result of our staff wanting to learn more.

"At each of our hotels, guests regularly ask for advice on everything from a simple house wine to accompany or complement a special meal to a vintage Champagne to help celebrate a special occasion. All our staff are keen to learn and by introducing the opportunity to achieve a NVQ Level 1 qualification means everyone has something to aim for."
