Young student chefs with a passion for Spanish cooking could win the chance to work at Ferran Adria’s El Bulli in the Foods from Spain Young Chef of the Year 2008 competition.
Catering students aged between 17 and 23 will have to design a three-course meal for four, using a chosen selection of Spanish fruits in each course, including strawberries, raspberries, picota cherries, plums, persimmon, or cherimoya
El Bulli on Spain’s Costa Brava has won Restaurant magazine’s Best Restaurant award for the last three years running, serving experimental and legendary Spanish food that Adria creates during the restaurant’s six months of closure.
The competition aims to highlight the use of seasonal Spanish produce in British cooking, so to be in with a chance of winning, entrants should try to incorporate Spanish ingredients into their dishes. They must also supply details of all ingredients used, as well as a recipe and colour photograph of each dish.
All entries must be submitted before October 10, after which eight shortlisted entries will be chosen to attend the live cook-off in London in November. For more information and to download an entry pack, visit www.foodsfromspain.co.uk.
