Life’s a beach at world’s first sand hotel
The world’s first sand castle hotel has been built on Weymouth Beach to highlight the attractiveness of the great British beach holiday

Weymouth beach in Dorset is playing host to the world’s first ever sand castle hotel, where guests can stay for just £10 per night.

Laterooms.com helped build the unique hotel to highlight the attractiveness of the British beach holiday. According to research by Norwich Union, more Brits will be holidaying in the UK instead of going abroad this year in order to save money during the credit crunch. At just £10 per night, the sand hotel offers a beach holiday experience at an unbeatable price.

It took 1,000 tonnes of sand, four sculptors and a JCB over seven days to build the hotel, which covers 50 square metres and is more than 3.6m high. Weymouth is renowned for its sand, which has been recognised as having a unique quality perfect for sand castle building.

The hotel consists of just one room with a double and single bed, both of which are made entirely of sand. There are no mod-cons, toilet facilities, shower, roof or door, meaning guests can literally sleep under the stars and wake up with the sea lapping at their feet. Guests had better be quick booking up though; the hotel is only available until rain washes it away.
