Time Out shortlists best London restaurants and bars
The nominees for this years Time Out Eating and Drinking Awards have been announced, with Tom Aikens restaurants making a double appearance

Time Out London have announced their list of nominees for the 2008 Eating and Drinking Awards, which this year includes four new categories.

To reflect London’s ever-changing food and drink scene, Time Out have introduced Best Local Food Market, Best Tea Room and London’s Best Breakfast. Also joining the list of categories is the topical Best Sustainable Restaurant, which Time Out’s Food and Drink Editor is enthusiastic about.

“Having worked in catering myself, I was aware that the industry can be wasteful, and so have welcomed the increased effort put into reducing carbon footprint that many restaurants are now making,” he said. “I felt that an award for Best Sustainable Restaurant would reward those making the extra efforts that might otherwise go unnoticed”.

Sustainability patron Tom Aikens has slipped two of his establishments into categories for Best Sustainable Restaurant and also Best Breakfast this year. Fellow restaurateur Mark Hix (pictured, right) has also managed to get his Oyster and Chop House into the Best New Restaurant category alongside L’Autre Pied, which is also nominated for Best Design.

All establishments were visited anonymously by Time Out judges to create the shortlist, but the final winning decision rests in the hands of the general public, who can vote for their favourite nominee at www.timeout.com/eatingawards.

The winners will be announced in the 2009 Time Out Eating and Drinking Guide, released on September 9.
