Chinese restaurants rush to enter Tsingtao competition
Chinese restaurants across the UK have just one week left to apply for this year’s Tsingtao Legacy of Taste competition

The competition, which has been launched in conjunction with celebrity chef Ed Baines (pictured, right), is encouraging restaurateurs to get their consumers to vote for them via SMS text, email or post, for the chance to win an exclusive trip to China.

Voting will close on August 31, after which the top five restaurants in each region will be visited by a band of TsingTao judges, and scored on set criteria. The winner from each region will then go forward to the grand final to be held in London in November, and cook their restaurant’s signature dish for a panel of esteemed judges.

Ed Baines, chef and co-owner of Randall and Aubin, said: “The UK has a fantastic heritage and diversity when it comes to Chinese restaurants but it is not always the most high profile of cuisines. In the year of the Beijing Olympics we are looking to really put Chinese cuisine on the map in the UK and show restaurant goers across the country, the quality and diversity of Chinese food available.”

The Legacy of Taste 2008 winner will be awarded with a VIP trip to the Tsingtao brewery in China, and consumers that vote for their favourite restaurant can also be in with the chance of winning an identical trip of a lifetime.
