Time Out London announce 2008 award winners
The winners of the Time Out London Eating and Drinking Awards 2008 have been announced

Marcus Eaves’ Marylebone restaurant L’Autre Pied has won the prestigious Best New Restaurant award in this year’s Time Out London Eating and Drinking Awards.

Eaves’ modern European restaurant, sister site to the two Michelin starred Pied a Terre, opened in November last year to rave reviews, serving what Giles Coren describes as a ‘smart and tight’ menu, in a relaxed and informal atmosphere.

Meanwhile, Tom Aikens’ fish and chip restaurant missed out to Clerkenwell Kitchen in Farringdon in the Best Sustainable Restaurant category, after its infamous closure last month. Aikens did however manage to secure a win in one of this year’s four new categories, Best Breakfast, for his casual Tom’s Kitchen restaurant in Chelsea.

The other new categories introduced this year were Best Local Food Market, which Alexandra Palace’s Farmers Market picked up, and Best Tea Room, which went to Orange Pekoe.

Guy Dimon, Time Out’s Food and Drink Editor, said: “Finding new talent is something we pride ourselves in at Time Out. Outstanding newcomers are rewarded and encouraged. We`re also pleased to draw attention to other facets of excellent food and drink culture, for example London`s Best Tea Room, and not just reward expensive West End restaurants.”

Alan Yau also picked up a prestigious award, Best Restaurant Design, for Sake no hana in St. James Street, while Gordon Ramsay’s gastropub The Warrington lost out to the Princess Victoria in Shepherds Bush in the Best Gastropub category.

The full list of winners have also been published in the latest edition of Time Out London, available now, and the 2009 Time Out Eating and Drinking Guide, available on September 18.
