The Royal Garden Hotel beat off stiff competition from some of the UK’s biggest industry names to win the second annual Springboard Slingsby Trolley Challenge Cup on Monday.
Dressed in hula skirts and flower garlands the team at Royal Garden took first place with their Hawaiian Bar trolley over 13 other teams including the Dorchester, Hyatt Regency London, Wilton Restaurant, and The Goring as they paraded around Westminster Kingsway College’s Vincent Square.
Celebrity chef Brian Turner, also the Chairman of Springboard charity scheme FutureChef, was on hand to start the race off, and afterwards announced his delight at the effort of the teams involved whose Slingsby trolley designs featured a pirate theme, Alice in Wonderland, a circus theme and a Roman chariot.
Brian Turner CBE said, “This has been a great day. Whoever thought of the event is a genius. I’m so happy to see the energy and boundless enthusiasm of Managing Directors, Managers and staff. What we have here is a showpiece for what the hospitality industry
stands for and I want to thank them for supporting Springboard.”
The Springboard Charitable Trust is the only charity in the UK to support young and disadvantaged people by encouraging and training them to work in the hospitality industry.
