Chef wins accolade after Stafford restaurant-college partnership
A Stafford chef who has been teaching local catering students in his restaurant is to have the Stafford College Bistro named in his honour.
Matt Davies (pictured), Executive Chef of The Moat House in Acton Trussell developed a partnership with the college last year to give students a more hands-on experience during their course, after celebrity chefs like Oliver Peyton and Marco Pierre White panned the quality of experience provided at some catering schools as a “disgrace”.
Not only do students have the opportunity to work in the kitchens of The Moat House, but in their campus bistro as well, which Davies takes control of every Tuesday evening. The chef, tipped to soon receive his first Michelin star, also guest lectures at the college one day a week.
Alison Malcolm, Faculty Manager at Stafford College, said: “A remarkable partnership has been forged between one of the region’s foremost restaurants and a leading College. The close interest that Matt Davies has taken in our students has given them unique access to a fine chef and a successful restaurant.”
The Stafford College Bistro will be renamed the Matt Davies Restaurant at a launch party on October 21.
