The Head Chef at Arora International Hotel Heathrow who was unfairly dismissed in July this year, has now been reinstated to his £20k a year position.
Vigilio Teixira was dismissed from his position by Compass after leaving the premises to go home at the end of his shift to look after his children, despite the absence of the chef covering the late shift who had overslept that day.
Compass Food and Beverage Manager Gavin Evans said it was the responsibility of Teixira, not the company, to cover the kitchen in the event of colleague absence.
But now Compass has reinstated the Portugese chef to his position after the chef sought advice from General Union GMB.
Perry Phillips, GMB Secretary of the Hounslow Branch, who represented Teixira in the case, said: “The management realized that they have to take account of their employee’s family commitments and the strain that can be caused by not having the proper procedures in place to help workers meet all their responsibility both at work and at home.
“This is great news for Mr Teixira and a full demonstration of the need of workers to belong to GMB.”
