British Pie Week competition seeks perfect pub dish
Pub chefs are being urged to enter the recipe for their favourite pie for a chance to be crowned the Face of British Pie Week

Once again chefs are being called to submit their recipes for their favourite pub pie for the 2009 Jus-Rol British Pie Week Competition (2-8 March).

Jus-Rol is searching for the best of British homemade pub pies, and is giving its creator the chance to be crowned as the Face of British Pie Week. The winner will also receive £500 in cash, a day with Jus-Rol’s pie expert to develop a bespoke pie menu ready for British Pie Week, and a selection of bespoke POS, including a giant external winners banner for the pub.

Recipes will be judged on a range of factors including seasonality, regionality, originality, simplicity, and the use of Jus-Rol pastry.

Last year’s winner Mike Greer, Head Chef at The Duke of Cornwall increased his pie sales by 400 per cent, and went on to appear alongside Angela Hartnett on ITV’s This Morning.

“The benefits from winning the competition have been instrumental to boosting our profits,” he said. “Our customer base and food sales have grown by over 20% and we now have a great reputation with the locals for homemade food. We put the cash prize towards refurbishing the kitchen and the development day gave us the inspiration and the tools to drive business forward.”

Recipe ideas, POS kits and entry forms are available from the British Pie Week website, www.britishpieweek.co.uk​, where pubs can also encourage their regulars to vote for their favourite pub pie. All entries must be received by January 16 2009.
