Rugby player to turn Scottish property into restaurant
A Red Lions rugby player has bought a former Edinburgh private members club, with a view to turning it into a restaurant/ bar

A Scottish rugby player plans to transform a former private members club in the centre of Edinburgh into a restaurant/ bar, after purchasing the property for an undisclosed sum.

Simon Taylor, a Rugby Union player with the British Red Lions who also owns Edinburgh nightspot 99 Hanover Street, plans to turn Home House into a restaurant/ bar with private dining facilities. The four-storey property already incorporates a 34-cover restaurant, a conference room, large bar area, two lounge areas, meeting room and five letting ensuite bedrooms, and retains most of the building’s original features, including a large ornate dining room fireplace.

A patio area seating up to 40 covers is situated at the rear of the property, complete with electronic shades and portable dispense bar.

Ken Sims of Christie and Co in Edinburgh, the property agents that handled the sale, said: “Home House was the first outpost of the flagship Home House in London, but recently closed as club usage was not as strong as anticipated. It will now be known as Hawke and Hunter, and will host various functions and live music events.”

The asking price for the leasehold of Home House was £195k, although it was eventually sold for an undisclosed amount.
